Three Easy Tips To Decorating Your Rental

By Alex Fedortchouk

Feeling unable to personalise your rental home can be frustrating and make it seem like you’re still living in someone else’s house.

These three tips will help you add your own flare without breaching your landlord’s contract.

The wonders of peel and stick

These days, there’s peal and stick for almost every surface. Dilapidated kitchen counters can be made granite and even backsplash tiles can be classed up with this easy to apply, easy to remove option.

Peel and stick surfaces work similarly to contact paper. Pick a pattern that catches your eye, measure the surface size you want to cover and cut the peel and stick. Let your imagination run wild with the designs from vintage wood to Florentine tiles, the designs are endless.

Think they’re only for surfaces? Think again! Your fridge and other appliances can have an ‘instant stainless’ look applied to give them a more modern touch.

When you’re moving out, pull up the peel and stick to leave the property as you found it.

Bring the outdoors in, and the indoors out

Have a run-down outdoor area you want to do up? Spend an afternoon giving it a clean, weeding and even adding removable deck tiles as an alternative to old patio flooring.

Brighten up the inside of your home with indoor plants. Not only do plants add a touch of colour, but they also provide a fresh feeling, smell good and maybe even disguise parts you don’t want guests to see.

Finally, being greeted by a personalised doormat will make you feel at home from the moment you step inside.

Lighting and lamps

It’s not advisable to rewire lighting in your rental, lighting can make a big change to the feel of a room.

Soft and warmly-lit rooms can invoke a relaxed feeling. shaded lamps can be a good option for social areas while imitating natural lighting can encourage productivity and so is useful in study rooms.

Finally, fairy lights never seem to go out of fashion. Easy to install and

remove, all you need is somewhere to hang them!
